CMH EMPATHY ROCKS 2018
A Day of Fun in the Sun and Giving Back!
June 12, 2016
We spend so much of each year working hard to make sure we’re reaching as many children as possible through our programming, and checking in with them to make sure things are going well. Visiting partner sites, meeting our students, and assisting our instructors is a thrilling whirlwind of activity, during which we do our best to pause as often as we can to appreciate the impact of the work we’re doing. As you can imagine, it’s not always that easy to stop and smell the roses!
That’s why we spend all year looking forward to our annual summer fundraiser, Empathy Rocks! It is a much-needed opportunity to raise funds and awareness for Children Mending Hearts, and a moment to step back, breathe, and take a pause to be thankful for the work we get to do and the students we serve. We think of Empathy Rocks as “A Day of Fun in the Sun and Giving Back,” and it is overwhelming the amount of support it takes to make it all happen. Our guests are treated to delicious food and lots of fun activities, and are kind enough to help us honor a few select philanthropists each year who are doing amazing work to give back, both to CMH and to other incredible organizations.
THE ROAD TO EMPATHY ROCKS
Getting our guests to and from the private estate where we held our event was a snap with Chrysler supporting us! They provided a fleet of vehicles which shuttled guests back and forth seamlessly — and they had the cutest little spokespeople ever hanging around to give anyone who wanted it a personalized tour of a brand new Chrysler Pacifica!
ROLLING OUT THE ORANGE CARPET
Hosted at a private residence in Beverly Hills, our event this year was intimate, energetic, and full of surprises. Upon arrival, guests walked the orange carpet on their way to a day of fun in the sun (and the weather was truly perfect - nice and sunny but not too hot).
We’re so thankful to our honored guests at Empathy Rocks each year who are happy to use the opportunity to expand the number of lives we touch with our message. Every little bit helps, and we feel honored when celebs hit the red carpet to spread the word about Children Mending Hearts.
Our title sponsor at Empathy Rocks 2016 was Vintage Grocers, and we were blown away by how delicious their food was! Guests snacked on servings of shrimp cocktail, fruit, veggies, sliders, and more! Their spread was impressive to say the least, and a HUGE hit!
Tasty Brand returned to Empathy Rocks this year with sweet snacks we could all feel good about indulging in! With vegan, gluten free, and non-GMO treats to choose from, guests were scooping up bags from the Tasty Brand booth and carrying them all over the event!
And for those looking for a more traditional summer indulgence, Coolhaus was on hand with an assortment of their incredible ice cream sandwiches. Holy cow, were they yummy.
We were lucky enough to enjoy a warm, sunny day this year at Empathy Rocks, and there were plenty of refreshments on hand to quench our guests’ thirst as they bounced around from one fun activity to another!
GLAM IT UP!
One of the most popular stations at our event each year is our Beauty Corner! We’ve had everything from facials to nail treatments to eyebrow threading to eyelash extensions, and this year one of our most popular sponsors was Matrix Professional Hair Care, who glammed our guests up throughout the event -- and brought the laughs, too!
ACTIVITIES AND FUN AT THE Shopping BAZAAR
A loyal CMH supporter for years, Michael Stars brought the fun again this year with a custom screen print T-shirt station (in addition to selling some of their much-loved clothing items at our Shopping Bazaar and donating proceeds to CMH).
We are always thrilled to have tokidoki at Empathy Rocks supporting our programming. Their cheerful, colorful style makes us so happy! This year, they sponsored a super fun craft activity for the kids to enjoy and brought a ton of great products and clothing to sell in our Shopping Bazaar!
Do you love Mini Maven as much as we do? As an online destination for the stylish child and parent, Mini Maven curates content with a multi-faceted, unique approach, seamlessly celebrating all things we love for the little ones and their modern world. They were front and center at our Bazaar, selling their magazine and offering guests a look at the latest issue. Just the cutest! And the Mini Maven booth featured deliciously fresh Sababa Water (which you may remember from the empathy artwork contest they ran for our students earlier this year)!
KicKee Pants, one of our most loyal supporters, kept things light and fun at our Bazaar. A veteran of Empathy Rocks, they are right at home at our event every year, and the guests absolutely LOVE their adorable clothing for little ones!
We were happy to extend a big welcome to a new sponsor atEmpathy Rocks, Buccellati! An Italian company that specializes in gorgeous jewelry and watches, they decided to bring the fun to our event by sponsoring a blinged-out photo booth! The booth was such a hit, and we are so thankful to Buccellati for sponsoring!
The photo booth was just one of the super fun activations we had going throughout Empathy Rocks! Participant Media sponsored GIANT bubble making, which generated lots of laughs -- and STARES!
Jessica Alba’s Honest Company was on hand with their amazing products, and Jessica stopped over to the Honest table to say hi (and probably to rub on some sunscreen, it was a sunny day!)
AND THE AWARDS GO TO...
Of course, the most important part of our event is when we give recognition to our honorees. Each year, we honor a few people who have really grabbed our attention for their tireless philanthropy and endless generosity. This year, we had two very special honorees: Rachel Zoe, who was presented with the Humanitarian of the Year Award, and Irena Medavoy, who was our Ambassador of Peace.
An ‘Artist Ambassador’ to Save the Children and a loving supporter of CMH (and a mother herself!), Rachel Zoe is a tireless advocate for children, and we are so thankful for the opportunity to highlight the great work she does.
A driving force behind many charities, from children’s causes to disaster preparedness to promoting healthy body image, Irena Medavoy is just the kind of Global Citizen we teach the students in our programming to be. We were so thankful to have her at our event.
FUN IN THE SUN AND GIVING BACK
Every moment at Empathy Rocks is a representation of the spirit of what we teach in our programming. We teach our students to be compassionate and empathetic, and to be thoughtful about the way they think about and treat others. It’s not easy to get people out for a cause; with so much in the world today to pull our attention, it’s no small task to receive the kind of love and attention we received this year at our event, and we are eternally grateful for the support. That so many came out to support CMH is a great honor and motivation for us to work even harder.
And, of course, a huge shoutout to our wonderful volunteers, without whom we couldn’t make Empathy Rocks happen each year!
Until next year!
